The German-Danish artist Bo Larsen was born in Karlsruhe in 1986 as the third son of his German mother and Danish father. He spent his childhood in Germany and Denmark.
As a young student he started to become interested in filmography and after high school he completed his studies as a director’s assistant. He thought that he would be able to reach a larger audience with this “modern” medium in comparison to painting. Nevertheless, he continued to use painting as an outlet for his creative expression just for himself.
After Bo got settled in Berlin he dedicated more of his time to painting. His work is influenced by his major role models Gerhard Richter and Jackson Pollock.
Ernst Ludwig Kirchner’s reasoning for himself and for other artists of the “Brücke” artist group why they didn’t formally study art also applies to Bo Larsen: he wants to express that which “drives him to create” without hesitation or falsification and without the “sumsilarium of technique, studies, talent” (Kirchner)
His painting is largely based on an experimental technique that he created, improved upon and perfected during his self studies. His multifaceted color and form arrangements open up new dimensions of interpretation of abstract forms to his audience. „An amazing interpretation of abstract painting”, as the Italian art collector and curator Elisa Rosi said.
The great success that he had with his paintings surprised even himself. In 2016 he rented a studio and created his new series MIRAGE and other works which were successfully introduced to the public in his first single-exhibition in April 2017 during the Berlin Gallery Weekend. Further exhibitions of his works are prepared to be shown in Hamburg and Miami.
Bo Larsen’s new works have been presented at the fair for contemporary art BERLINER LISTE 2017 during the Berlin Art Week in September 2017. During the Berlin Gallery Weekend 2018 the new series DANISH SOUTH SEA was shown in April/May 2018. He was also shown in two group exhibitions in 2018, “Summer In The City” as part of fine art berlin intimate spaces No. 4 and “Advent-Special 2018”. Many of his works are now part of German and foreign collections.
The next solo exhibition with new works from his “Berlin” series will take place in the autumn of 2019.
Bo Larsen lives and works in Berlin.
